Rubicks - In Miniature - 2006 (Sharp Attack)

London three-piece Rubicks specialize in a certain type of guitar bolstered electro-pop. A very specific type: the vast majority of songs on their debut In Miniature follow the same template: Glossy synths slide in together with unobtrusive bass, female vocals (sounding alternately prettily forlorn or breathlessly excited) join, and then the intensity is ramped up for a mid-paced chorus where guitars suddenly appear. They exit just as sharply afterwards and we’re pretty much left exactly where we started.
